Middle School Science Teacher/ 7th Grade Advisor

Sarah grew up in Pennsylvania until she left to attend Carleton College in Minnesota. There she majored in American Studies and studied Spanish. After college, she taught middle school English in both general and special education settings. In 2011, she moved back to Minnesota and pursued her Masters of Teaching at Hamline University in Saint Paul. Her master’s thesis was on the connections between elementary mathematics and literacy. Sarah moved with her family to Berkeley in 2013 and began teaching 4th graders in Oakland. Most recently, Sarah was teaching 5th-6th grade Humanities at Lighthouse Community Charter School, an Expeditionary Learning school focused on project-based learning and character development. Sarah and her spouse, Nick, have two daughters, Madeline and Wilma. When she is not teaching, Sarah can be found playing Ultimate Frisbee, gardening, going to the library with Maddy and Wilma, or exploring a Bay Area trail with her family.
