Alex Stone talks about his approach to Math and Science at Berkwood Hedge Middle School.

my name is Alex I am the seventh grade advisor and the middle school math and science teacher and I just want to share a few things about our math and science programs are math program and it's great it's a combination learning experiences because it's a great way to do a taper and Technology are paper lessons helped a very flexible and creative technology which provide expensive Dynamic and interactive feeling while learning math what's great about our math program as well at the middle school level is that it puts the students ideas at its Center so it's very there's multiple entry points one-size-fits-all when we get to a deep conceptual understanding of math concepts before introducing algorithms for example in our Science Program I'm thinking with our science program as well I teach science at the middle school level in a different than traditional which is the scientific method we used to design thinking process start with the problem or Challenge and we tried to brainstorm solutions to that problem we build a prototype test it after we test it find it cuz we always things can always get better and then after we refined it then you repeat the whole process again until you can great about our using the design thinking process and allow students to define the criteria and constraints project and it also is a great way for us to incorporate our environmental justice and social justice things that come up for example with malnutrition we studied nature vs nurture and our sixth grade found a location around the world a specific nutrition deficiency and they wrote a letter to UNICEF in order to come what is solution in a way that test to fix that issue affects they are able to reach other communities around the world which is great and definitely our climate change ecological footprint gets address to router I said I hope I can explain more details at a future tour or an open house
