Berkwood Hedge School

Open Houses/Events

Choosing a private education for your child is a very important decision and sometimes can present challenges.  There are many aspects to consider.  Touring our campus is an important part of the decision making process.  As you experience the daily life going on around you, you will get a sense of what Berkwood Hedge School is all about.  While you are here, you will meet other parents and you will experience the Berkwood Hedge School community and get a sense of whether this is the right place for your child and your family.

In addition to our weekly Tuesday and Thursday morning tours we have four events during the 2017 - 2018 Admission Season. The events complement our school day tours. We recommend you go on a school tour in addition to attending the Open House and the Parent Education Series.

Parent Education Series: Sheri Glucoft Wong, "Positive Communication and Setting Boundaries"

Wednesday, November 1, 2017 6:30 - 8:00pm

**NO CHILDCARE PROVIDED FOR THIS EVENT**

It is our children’s job to wonder what happens when they follow their impulses or try out different behaviors, and it’s our job as parents to give them clear responses.  Sometimes the response is to encourage them, and other times they may need us to set limits.  Sheri Glucoft Wong, LCSW will join us to offer perspective and tools to help parents set limits that are both clear and loving. Topics include:

*  Communication tools for setting positive, clear and consistent boundaries

*  ...and for supporting cooperation, responsibility and self-esteem

*  Being on your children's side as you set boundaries and limits with them

*  Bribes and rewards, threats and "consequences"---where do they fit in?

*  When parents have differing approaches or simply disagree.

Parent Education Series: Head of School, Love Weinstock, "Conversations About Class"

Wednesday, January 10, 2017 6:30 - 8:00 pm

Join us for an experiential evening of shared inquiry in community with others who are curious, intentional, and invested in increasing self-awareness and empathy for others. Together we will explore aspects of our identity and values, and strategize goals for personal change.

The intention of this workshop is to create an environment in which participants can safely explore class dynamics and deepen their understanding of individual, institutional, and cultural manifestations of classism. Participants will begin to identify ways of recognizing classism in their everyday lives. By reflecting on their own individual experiences of class, participants will gain insight into their role and responsibility as cross-class allies.
