Family Participation

An active and involved parent body is a long-standing tradition at Berkwood Hedge School. Parent participation enhances communication between the school and its families, supports the fundraising efforts of the school, and provides opportunities for building warm and longstanding friendships with members of the school community.

Families contribute to the school in a variety of ways - driving on fieldtrips, staffing the school library, serving on committees, helping with events, and volunteering their special talents.

Two parents families contribute 10 hours of work to the school each year. Single parents who are the sole support for the child/children are asked to contribute 5 hours per year. This commitment not only helps keep tuition more affordable but also involves parents/guardians in the life of the school as volunteers on field trips, on the grounds, in the office, at events, and with development and fundraising projects. 2.5 of the hours (1.25 for single parents) must be devoted to school-wide development activities – activities related to fundraising, admissions, alumni, friends and family, and community relations and outreach.
