Tuition Assistance

Current Families: For information on reapplying for tuition assistance, log on to the Parent Portal and select "Office - Tuition Assistance." Your deadlines and required documents are slightly different from new families.

Through our generous Tuition Assistance program, we actively seek to make our school affordable and accessible to as many families as possible.  We allocate 18% of our gross income to our need-based Tuition Assistance program which serves nearly 47% of Berkwood Hedge School families.

We consider applications for tuition assistance independently of the admission process and awards are need-based. Families may apply for an assistance award for extended care as well as for tuition.  Tuition for the 2023 - 2024 school year is $29,800 (Lower School) and $35,600 (Middle School).  Our tuition includes school supplies and stationary, most field trips, and free childcare for evening events.

Our Tuition Assistance Committee confidentially reviews applications for assistance. The committee strives to consider each applicant family's unique situation.  While families are required to re-apply for tuition assistance each year, provided there is no tremendous growth in income, families who are part of our tuition assistance program are assessed for their 9 year trajectory at Berkwood Hedge School.

Some of our families receive additional assistance from the following organizations. Our awards are granted independently of these grants which could further lower the cost of a Berkwood Hedge School education for qualifying families:

The Basic Fund provides a maximum of $2,000 per year, per student.

www.basicfund.org, (415) 986-5650

The Guardsmen provides a maximum of $2,000 per year, per student.

www.guardsmen.org, (415) 856-0939

Accordingly, we require certain information in order to make equitable determinations.

We use Clarity to process our tuition assistance applications. Based on the financial information you provide, Clarity gives us an estimated amount that your family can contribute to educational expenses. This helps our school make fair and equitable tuition assistance decisions. The interface and on-screen help are user-friendly with clear, step-by-step instructions.

To get started, please go to the Clarity Application and create an account. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. The Clarity Application is also mobile-friendly so you can complete it from anywhere. You are also able to save your progress and return at any time. At the end of the application, there is a $60 fee to submit, and you can share your application with additional schools that accept the Clarity Application for no additional charge. Simply use the dropdown menu in the application to select those schools.

Please remember to return to your dashboard after you complete and submit your Clarity Application, as Berkwood Hedge School requires you to upload additional tax documentation.

Families may apply for tuition assistance as early as October 10, 2023.  The deadline for completing the financial aid application including relevant supplemental documents is Friday, January 12, 2024 for Returning Families and Friday, January 19, 2024 for Prospective Families.

If you need support during the process of completing your application, there is in-app support available through the “Help” button in the bottom left of the screen, as well as email and phone support at [email protected] or 206-210-3752, in both English and Spanish. The application itself is also fully translated into Spanish.
