Stephanie Sisk-Hilton has spent more than twenty years helping children and adults, including herself, engage in science. She loves moving between the worlds of teaching children, supporting teachers in their ongoing learning, and researching how children build scientific understanding. Her core educational belief is that joy, rigor, and belonging are essential companions in developing lifelong learners. Stephanie has been an elementary and middle school teacher and professional developer in Maryland, Atlanta, New York City, and Oakland. In addition to teaching environmental science at Berkwood Hedge, she is currently an Associate Professor of Elementary Education at San Francisco State University. Stephanie earned a BA in cognitive science from Johns Hopkins University, an MA in educational policy and administration from Stanford, and a Ph.D. in cognition and development from UC Berkeley. Her children Max and Juliet are both current students at Berkwood Hedge.
