Born in Cleveland, Ohio. Raised in Echo Park/Silver Lake Area in Los Angeles. Educated in Berkeley. Deanne student taught at Lincoln School which is now named Malcolm X School and Cragmont school in Berkeley. Headstart was developed in the early 60's and she took her first teaching job in South Central Los Angeles as a head teacher in the program. Soon after, Deanne taught three summers in the Headstart program in Pittsburg, CA. In 1966 Berkwood Hedge hired Deanne to teach Fourth Grade, and she was a classroom teacher for various grades for 43 years until she decided to devote her teaching time to Early Art Education. Deanne had a four-year hiatus from Berkwood Hedge in the early 70's and taught in Sonoma County at the Monte Rio and Larkfield Public Schools.
Her greatest education has come from learning through books, people, travel, political activism, making wonderful friends along the way, being a mother and co-mother, hiking in nature, teaching and doing Art with children, creating her own art and walking her dog, Sanak, who always invites a conversation from people they meet on their walks.
