Head of School

Now in her eleventh year as Head of School at Berkwood Hedge School, Love has been teaching and developing innovative educational and enrichment programs for Bay Area children for more than 25 years.

 

Love's teaching experience spans preschool through adult students, with an emphasis on social justice and civic engagement. During her tenure as director of service learning and public purpose at St. Paul's Episcopal School in Oakland, the program received local and national recognition for excellence. Love was the founding director of Aim High Oakland, an academic enrichment program for public middle school students. She served as founding associate head of school at Making Waves Academy, a public charter middle school in West Contra Costa County, as well as at the East Bay School for Boys, the first and only school for boys in the area. She has also served as a consultant to independent schools throughout the country, supporting the development of diversity and service learning programs, as well curriculum development and instructional coaching.


Love has a master of arts degree in educational leadership and a California State Administrative Services Credential from Mills College. She has a certificate in School Management and Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, holds an English teaching credential, and has received formal teacher training in both math and science. Love has a strong background in outdoor and environmental education, program development, and the arts. She is an avid reader, gardener, and jewelry designer, and she has a passion for spending time outdoors and with her family.
