Alex Dutton, Trustee

Alexandra is the parent of two children, Teddy and Ellie.  She is the director of Old Firehouse School in Lafayette and has worked in the field of early education for over 20 years.  She also is an adjunct instructor at Diablo Valley College where she teaches in the Early Childhood Education program.

Having had her children in her preschool from infancy to age 5, finding an elementary school turned out to be a daunting experience.  No place seemed to have the standards that had been part of her children's early education -- until she found Berkwood Hedge.  Upon discovering BH, Alexandra knew she found the ideal educational setting for her children.  The strong community, social justice curriculum, focus on project based learning, and exceptional teachers make this school a special place for children to learn.  The intimate space allows for families and educators to build trust and work together to support all the students.

She is helping to raise two adventurous children with her husband, Mike.  Together they love to go camping in their camper truck, the Holly Jolliday, (Ellie named it after Mary Poppins' song "It's a Jolly Holiday"), eat Korean food and ice cream, read, and bake.
