Environmental Science Specialist K-5/ ASP Coordinator

Dylan Garcia spent his formative years in Southern California. His love and interest in science led him to earning a B.S. in Geology from California State University, Fullerton. He studied and taught environmental science at the University of New Mexico (UNM) thereafter. His research background includes: studying paleoclimate in the Southwest, hunting for ancient tsunamis in California, and mapping landslides in Thailand. He has also developed skills in restructuring course curriculum and creating active learning environments for the department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at UNM. Dylan has worked with several non-profits including America on Track and the Santa Fe Children’s Museum as a science educator. He has dedicated time to mentoring ‘at-risk’ children and jumpstarting on-campus organizations focused on making science accessible through afterschool programming. In addition, he spent several years as a project associate and information technology specialist at an engineering firm. He has since taught high school biology and environmental science in Oakland, CA. He is currently finishing his Master’s in Education and enjoys playing tennis and the drum
