Harry is a Chicago native. He earned his master’s degree in music education, his PhD in music theory from Northwestern University, and completed a three-summer training course in the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music education at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He holds K–12 teaching credentials in Illinois. Harry worked for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s education department, overseeing school outreach programs and developing orchestra concerts for children. Prior to relocating to the East Bay from Chicago in 2005, Harry worked as a classroom and drama teacher in the upper elementary grades for six years before turning his attention to the music classroom. He taught general music for three years at Windrush School in El Cerrito, followed most recently by ten years as the K-6 music teacher at Walden Center and School in Berkeley. Harry performs periodically as a folksinger and songwriter, and released a solo album of original songs, The Rest of My World, in 2009. He is excited to be joining the Berkwood Hedge School community as music teacher this year.
