Alia Lilienstein
Trustee
Alia is excited and honored to serve the Berkwood Hedge community as a trustee of the school. With her husband Joshua, she is a parent to two incredible beings: the eldest is in BH Class of 2033 and the second can’t wait to be old enough to join.
Alia is a board-certified Family Medicine physician. Her medical expertise includes women’s health, mental health, public health, and psychedelic medicine. She seeks to use her position as a medical doctor to advocate for marginalized populations and stigmatized conditions and treatments. Alia is a world expert in psychedelic drug research and development, having dedicated the past decade to developing novel treatments for patients suffering from mental health conditions. She was the lead physician on the first new drug application to the FDA for a potential psychedelic medication, MDMA (street drug Ecstasy) for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Alia is passionate about developing better tools for psychological healing so that everyone may have the opportunity to approach themselves and others with empathy and love.
Alia earned her B.A. in American Studies from Georgetown University, where she studied social and cultural influences on health care. Prior to medical school, she earned her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from UC Berkeley. Alia received her M.D. from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and completed residency in Family Medicine at Cambridge Health Alliance, a Tufts and Harvard-affiliated Accountable Care Organization. She also earned a certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies and Research from California Institute of Integral Studies.
Alia is a child at heart and loves to play with her kids and friends, including singing, dancing, hula hooping, crafting, eating delicious food, and spending time in nature. She is proud to be both a first generation American and a daughter of the American Revolution.
