Technology
At Berkwood Hedge, each classroom is equipped with networked computers, and teachers encourage students to use technology in ways that enhance the interdisciplinary curriculum, spark creativity, and support independent thinking. At every grade level, teachers model the safe, legal, and responsible use of information technology.
Lower grade students begin to learn the basics of technology vocabulary and use the Internet to support research for their Science Fair projects. In third grade, play math enrichment games and explore relevant search engines and websites.
Fourth and fifth graders use the Internet to gather, evaluate, and apply information for a variety of in-class research lessons. Geometer's Sketchpad is used for building and investigating mathematical models. Digital photography, animation, video creation, and computer graphics also enhance student projects.
