Family Participation
An active and involved parent body is a long-standing tradition at Berkwood Hedge School. Parent participation enhances communication between the school and its families, supports the fundraising efforts of the school, and provides opportunities for building warm and longstanding friendships with members of the school community.
Families contribute to the school in a variety of ways - driving on fieldtrips, staffing the school library, serving on committees, helping with events, and volunteering their special talents.
Two parent families contribute 40 hours of work to the school per year. Single parent families are asked to contribute 20 hours per year. This commitment not only helps keep tuition more affordable, but also involves families in the life of the school. People volunteer in the classroom, on field trips, on the grounds, in the office and with development projects. Ten of the 40 hours (or five of the 20 hours) must be devoted to school wide development activities.
