Diversity Committee

The purpose of the Berkwood Hedge Diversity Committee is:

- To assist the school community in preparing children for the opportunities and challenges of growing up in a diverse society;

- To support the efforts of the Berkwood Hedge staff in their curriculum development and student, parent, teacher and staff activities, as related to issues of diversity and multicultural education;

- To provide diversity and multicultural education materials, resources and opportunities for Berkwood Hedge parents, to enhance their awareness and understanding, and to encourage participation in the enrichment made possible by our recognition and celebration of that diversity;

- To assist the Berkwood Hedge community in outreach for and retention of a diverse student, parent, teacher and staff population.

Last year, the Diversity Committee began supporting the Admissions office with recruitment and retention of families by assisting with tours, school fairs, and prospective parent visits.

Each year the committee hosts Diversity in Action, an informational panel focused on diversity at Berkwood Hedge.

The Diversity Committee also plans and implements social and educational events, such as the annual Festival of Lights, as well as Parent Education events.

The Diversity Committee is open to all Berkwood Hedge community members who want to help promote diversity awareness and multiculturalism in every aspect of the Berkwood Hedge community. Monthly meetings are generally held on Monday evenings at 6:30.
